It is but a reality that the success of mankind and especially that of the Muslim ummah is completely relied and dependent solely on the practice and implementation of the blessed Shariah Mutahharah. Unless the practice and implementation of deen and Shariah aren’t withhold too, there is no question of attaining success in this worldly life nor can it be assumed to attain the success and benefits of the Hereafter. In the early days of Islam, the blessed Sahabah RZ accomplished their glorified and successful ranks solely because of their continuous hard work of practicing on this blessed deen. And in the present time, what we witness today, the deteriorating and degrading condition of the Muslims is only/solely because of the fundamental and crucial fact of neglecting and being away from deen and Shariah. And because of this aversion from and deeni knowledge and ‘ilm, the students attending the schools and colleges are now becoming the victim of irtedaad and apostasy. The condition of Muslim children attending these expensive missionary schools is much worse. The rich families are content and happy by paying huge amounts of money for admissions and then surrendering their children to the Christians and think that their children will have the better future when the fact actually is that these Christian teachers actually instill hatred and renounce for Islam. This is the state of most of the posh and wealthy Muslims families who have their children studying in these schools.By the time these children studying in the Christian schools reach tenth standard or matriculation and are supposed to be ready for their further studies, their minds are completely transformed to the Christian standards, values, ethics and goals and will be just namesake Muslims. And also another thing gets instilled in them that they lose trust and confidence from Islam and the Shariah and feel that the laws of Islam are out of date and feel that Islam is so outdated and old fashioned that in today’s modern, technological and fast age, Islam is incapable and incompetent in tackling and resolving the demands, needs and requirements. Salman Rushdie and Tasleema Nasreen are the cherished results we witness today of these environments and education.

The matter of great concern here is that the modern educated youth are easily falling victim to these futile, false and wrong concepts, the misguided ideas and beliefs. And the result is that many youths of the city of Hyderabad, who lacked deeni environment and the social companionship of the ‘ulama have easily fallen victim and are inspired by these deviant and misleading and wrong sects, groups and associations. The JamaatulMuslimeen, the MunkireeneHadis, Qadiyaniyat, the fitna of ShakeelbinHaneef, the SiddeeqDeendaar etc. are some of the groups and sects with which the modern educated Muslim youths have knowingly and unknowingly been inspired and also have joined. Apart from this, there is a need of a team of the graduates of the Madaris, who are well equipped with the required deeni knowledge and are capable enough and are well versed with the contemporary style of the modern world and have knowledge of the modern languages and are familiar to the intellectual, moral and ethical errors and wrongs, to undertake, seize, confront, engage and tackle the ever arising fitne and to the challenges brought up the western world. They should also be well versed and have a keen eye on the ideologies and concepts of the other world religions too; in short there is a major need for a body to curb all these weaknesses and fragilities. So in these contexts and taking in account these diverse objectives, HazratMuftiShahMuhammadNawalUrRahmanSahab(DamatBarakatuhum) has established Shariah Board of India in Hyderabad a little over five years ago. Hazrat is a well-known, highly respected and prominent scholar. He is well known, reputable, trusted and loved among the general masses and the ‘ulamakiraam alike. Hazrat is among those ‘ulama of the country that have a strong and deep understanding of the knowledge of Islam and has deep affiliation and connection with the pious predecessors, a profound insight of the modern world and immense yearning for the dawah (spreading of the message of Islam) and for the  islaah (spiritual reformation) of the Muslims populace. Hazrat having spent a considerable amount of time in America has lead him to understand and get to know first-hand the modern ideologies and wrong concepts. He also has vast experience in removing and eradicating the misconceptions, suspicions and doubts about Islam brought up by the western educated Muslims. Apart from the misconceptions and wrong ideologies at the international level, Hazrat also has great insights on the ever emergingfitne () and the (gumraah/) misguidedsects. He has great mastery in benefitting and complying, relating and resolving the ever emerging and oncoming issues and trending problems in light of the Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah. HazratMuftiSahab had long desired to establish an organization that would strive and work to accomplish the task of guiding the Muslim ummahin their issues and problems faced in the numerous varying fields, and which would help amend and eradicate the distortions and deteriorations in the knowledge of Islam and in the practical life of a Muslim; the establishment of ‘Shariah Board of India’ is a practical interpretation of his dream.

A brief sketch of the current status of the activities by SBOI

The publishing of the written matter and material of the Senior Ulama

The department of printing and publishing of Shariah Board is active since its first say of establishment. Apart from research and development, it is also involved in the publishing of articles and discourses of various prominent senior Ulama on many different topics. Some of them are:

Tahqeequl Maqaal of which the Urdu translation is Tasheehul Khayaal.

The Shaikh of Arab wal ‘Ajam, Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Zakariyya Sahab KandehlwiRA is a world renowned and prominent scholar and his famous book Fazail e Amaal needs no introduction. The book has been translated in many world languages and is abundantly read. But some sections of the book have been criticized of being weak or objectionable. So a new book was written to counter these objections and criticism by the famous IndianMuhaddis Hazrat Maulana Lateef Ur Rahman Sahab Bahraichi, presently residing in Makkah Al Mukarramah, by the name ‘Tahqeequl Maqaal fi TakhreejiAhadisiFazailil Amaal’. Apart from the clarifications of the objections and criticism on the Ahadis of Fazail e Amaal, the book also has a comprehensive preface which refutes the objections on the book through crucial and logical reasoning.  As this book was in the Arabic language, the translation to Urdu language became necessary for the convenience of the Urdu speaking public. Shariah Board took up the task of translation and has published it spending a substantial amount on this important work and the resulting book has been well received among the Ulama.

Publishing of articles by Hazrat Mufti Shah Muhammad Nawal Ur Rahman Sahab Damat Barakatuhum.

The Duroos of Hazrat Mufti Sahab and his sermons which have been recorded and are presently being published. The completed published works are

Mauzu’ati Dars e Qur’an

Tazkeerat e Jumu’ah

Aqeedatut Tahawi

Mauzu’ati Dars e Qur’an

The book comprising of 184 pages is based on the collection of Hazrat Mufti Sahab sermons and discourses based on the tafseer of Ayatul Kursi and the related versus whichwere delivered over a few months in Chicago and has been written in lucid terminology and language so as to make it clear, more comprehensible and graspable for the general public. Mufti Raza Ur Rahman Abid, the son of Hazrat Mufti Nawal Ur Rahman Sahab writes about the book that “In the present times, many tafseer lectures and discourses have a lot of disorders in them and lot of them are intimidated with the western cultures and hence the result of these is that these lectures lack the true sense of tafseer and highly lack in the correct tafseer of the honorable and respected predecessors and also they have in them many misinterpretations, fabricated interpretations and also voice in their own opinions! And because of this, this crucial and delicate department of tafseer, there has arisen many new fitnas and this has become a platform for the many unreligious and western intimidated and western culture doctors and professors to play their own conceived game and thereby mislead the common man. But by Allah Almighty’s grace, in the tafseer of Hazrat Mufti Sahab, we find the essence of Deen that our forefathers have acquired from the Holy Messenger of Allah and the then through the Holy Sahabah RZ and, their true concept of Deen and its related religious concepts and lessons and the correct and authentic tafseer that will guide us onto the true and correct path.

Tafseer Surah Fatihah:

This is the second segment of the Tafseer series collection delivered by Hazrat Mufti Sahab which is based on the tafseer of Surah Al Fatihah. In the beginning of the book, there is a comprehensive explanation about the ‘ilm (knowledge) of tafseer and the gathering of the different chapters of the Holy Qur’an, the reality and significance of theWahee, types of Wahee, the history of the revelation of the Holy Qur’an, the specialty of the Makki and Madani Surahs, the writers of the Wahee, the conditions and nature in the eras of Hazrat Abu Bakr RZ and Hazrat Osman RZ while gathering and collecting the Holy Qur’an in a book form, the sources and resources of the knowledge of tafseer, the ruling on tafseer bir-rai (tafseer based on one’s own opinion) and the rules and conditions of acquiring benefit from the knowledge of the Qur’an are some of the few topics that have been explained in detail. Furthermore, there is also a complete introduction and explanation of the Ta’uuz and Tasmiyah and after which the tafseer of Surah Al Fatihah commences. The book is an exceptional tafseer on Surah al Fatihah and after which the reader will be contented and will have to look no further. In it, apart from the explanatory aspect which covers various tafseer points and detailed discussions with the references and evidences, it also focuses on the many islaah (reformation) related topics too. Also, as and when needed, topics on various related issues (masail) have also been covered. And since the language used is quite easy and comprehendible, the reader would not be bored but in fact will enjoy it.

Tafseer Surah Ar-Rahman

The third segment in the series of the Mauzu’aati Dars e Quran is the Tafseer of Surah Rahman, comprising of 206 pages. It consists of a complete work of the various tafaseers on this Surah. As Hazrat Mufti Sahab has complete knowledge of the different streams of tafseer, ilm e aqaliya and naqaliya therefore the book gives the deep and complete understanding and also covers its related topics includingtafseer, tasawwuff and etc. Apart from the knowledge aspect it also covers the character building aspect too. The book has been received extremely well among the ulama kiraam and the general masses alike.

Tazkeerat e Jumuah

Similar to the Quranictafseers of Hazrat Mufti Sahab, his weekly Jumuah sermons and discourses too are highly valuable and thus the task of collecting and preserving them into a book form became duly necessary. Because of the vastness of the sermons and topics, this too has become a series of books, launched on timely basis and again written in a very lucid and easily understandable way and meant for the general public and the ulama kiraam.

Online and local and resident Fatawa

Among the current activities of SBOI, one of the most important ongoing activity is of providing and issuing of religious decrees i.e. Fatawa, for both the Online and the locally enquired questions. This was started in February of 2012 and has since being ongoing successfully. On an average per week, the number of questions enquired is nearly 18 to 20 and sometimes the number goes up to 30 too. Since the questions posted from the US and Europe are in English language, they are first translated into Urdu language and then sent to the Muftiyaan e Kiraam for solving and then again the answers or solutions are translated into English from Urduand then posted onto the website and also sent to the respective person. SBOI has hired a dedicated translator for this specific purpose. The answers, rulings and decrees provided by the Muftiyaan e kiraam for the respective questions and queries are all authentic and with all the required references (hawala/). Furthermore, the resident and local Fatawa and queries are sought too, to which again the Fatawa are given in a written form. In these past years, the number Fatawa issued from SBOI were more than 1750 while the local and resident issued Fatawa were more than 70.

SBOI has also initiated the counseling and guidance for the Shara’i problems and queries (masail) over the telephone too, for which the timings are 12pm to 4 pm and awareness about these facilities has been advertised on a weekly basis in the daily Urdu newspapers. And due to the advertisements, the number of people calling over the phone for the solutions and answers to their problems and issues has quite increased and many have even called from the outskirts and districts too and the reviews obtained through the public about the response offered by the Muftiyaan e kiraam over the phone were very positive.

Current activities of the Darul Qaza

Although the department of Darul Qaza isan essentialobjective of SBOI, but due to not possessing an own and permanent place this department was facing difficulty, but even then, quite a number of people have approached for the resolution of their marital matters to which the Ulama kiraam of SBOI provided them with Shariah decrees and decisions. AlHamdulillah, in the present owned building of SBOI, the department of Darul Qaza has been effectivelyestablished. And due to the necessity of experience in this field, SBOI has appointed an ‘Alim who has the necessary and vast experience required to handle and tackle matters in this necessary and vital field. Creating awareness among the people/public to approach the Darul Qaza for their marital and personal issues and problems is a very crucial task and for this SBOI has initiated organizing awareness programs and Jalsas, gatherings, meetings and programs in various places in the city and outskirts and especially in the rural and slum areasof the city and in the districts too.

Shariah Zabiha and Halal Food Research

This is a very important and significant department of SBOI. Overall, there has been quite a few investigative and research related trips of the Ulama kiraam of SBOI, to a total of four companies and factories in which they have investigated and inquired of the company’s and factory’s products’ and upon complete validation and satisfaction were granted with Halal certifications on behalf of SBOI. The first was Heritage Group of Companies which had products such as milk and its related products like butter, ghee and milk powder etc. Upon careful investigations and the reports of manufacturing of these products from the company and the nature of the work involved in manufacturing these products was obtained by the company and submitted to the SBOI Muftiyaan e Kiraam, they then after the complete study and analysis, they then issued a certificate with a validity of a year to the company.

Similarly, Halal Zabiha certifications were granted to a shop situated in Manikonda area, again after careful investigations. The third and fourth certifications were granted to companies by the name MeenakshiPharma and Haryana Cellulose Products Company. These companies had worked on vegetation and related products and also on medicines derived from them and also manufactured granules of them. The Muftiyaan e kiraam of SBOI, upon careful investigations and research of the products and items involved in them issued the certifications with a validity of a years’ time.

Publishing of various reformative and Fiqh related Charts.

SBOI publishes small booklets, i.e. jantri etc. which is based on the months of the year, providing the many related masail and Fazail of the months. In the Holy month of Ramazan, a chart with the issues and masail faced and that arise in this Holy month is publish in a chart form for the benefit of the people. Also in the month of ZilHajj, a chart explaining the various issues and topics of this month is also being published.

Previously, a Jantri and year calendar have been published by SBOI too.
